As we enter the home stretch of moving away from Chicago, I am digging deeper into my boxes of craft supplies and artwork that were mostly untouched during my busy last years of grad school. I did come across one painting, though, that I hastily started last year when I was finishing my thesis and Nico was a newborn. I painted the background and the main subject – a little painter lady – but never got around to gluing her down or painting the people I imagined around her. But now that I’m looking at it again I think it’s just fine as it is. Like her painting of the flowers on the stoop, it’s a permanent work in progress.
