We are moving soon from Chicago to Cincinnati. I am overwhelmed with all of the feelings — excitement, sadness, but especially shock as I take inventory of how much *stuff* I own. Whenever I move, I’m reminded of my aunt’s story of how she relocated to San Francisco in the early 90’s after graduating from Michigan State. She threw her all of her worldly possessions in the trunk of her car in Lansing and drove off towards the West Coast. Since hearing that story, it has been my secret fantasy to own so few things that they could fit in the trunk of a single car. It hasn’t happened yet (my first post-college move across Chicago required a mid-size U-Haul) but a girl can dream.
